Railway has lots of department which broadly includes technical and non technical job. Competitive exams are held every year for various posts in the different department and all recruitments are done either through Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) or through Union Public service commission (UPSC).

 About Indian Railway

Indian Railway has 7500 stations and covers a rout of 65,000 kilometers. Indian railway comes under the top 5 world’s largest railway network. Railway was introduced in India in 1853 and since then it is providing lots of job opportunities. Indian Railways has around 10.3 Lack of employees and continue to add more every year.

 

Indian Railway Recruitment Classifications

Indian Railway Staff has been classified in two posts gazette & Non-gazetted. Vacancies for Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ are gaztte posts and Group ‘C’, ‘D’ come under non-gazetted posts.

Indian Railway recruitment for Group ‘A’ posts are done through UPSC Union Public Service Commission through the competitive exams. There are total 19 Railway recruitment control board (RRCB) which handle the exams for the recruitment of Group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’.

List of UPSC Civil Services and Engineering Exams come under Group ‘A’ category

1) Indian Railway Traffic Service

2) Indian Railway Accounts Service

3) Indian Railway Personnel Service

4) Railway Protection Force

5) Indian Railway Service of Engineers

6) Indian Railway Stores Service

7) Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers

8 ) Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers

9) Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers

 

Selection Procedure

Selection is done on the basis of written and online examination which covers aptitude, skill tests and sometimes interview if required.  All the short listed candidates are called for document verifications etc.

Examination patter

Railway Examinations consist question related to general knowledge, math, English, quantitative and analytical skills. Time duration of the examination will be around 1 hours 30 min or 2 hours.
